Questions

Q. How long have you been working as an organizer?

I started my organizing business, Your Essential Solutions, in 2003. See my About page for my story. I have been using my organizing skills to assist others for well over thirty years.

Q. Where do you work?

Most of my current organizing clients are in western Oregon and western Washington.

Some of the cities in Oregon where I commonly work are Corvallis, Salem, Eugene, Portland, Beaverton, Ashland, Roseburg, and Newport.

Some of the cities in Washington where I commonly work are Seattle and the surrounding area; Renton, Bellevue, Redmond, Lynnwood, Federal Way, Kent, Tacoma, Everett, and Bellingham.

In the past I have also assisted clients in California, New Mexico, Virginia, and New York.

Please call me to discuss your needs; I often can arrange to travel to new locations upon request.

Q. My house is way too messy and I am so overwhelmed I can’t imagine where to start. How could you possibly help?

I have handled all levels of clutter and disorganization working with many people over the past eighteen years. I enjoy working with:
~ small projects like reorganizing closets and pantries;
~ big projects like decluttering an entire house that is overwhelmed with stuff;
~ everything in between these two extremes.
Please contact me for a free phone consultation where we can discuss how I can best help you.

Q. Will you make me get rid of all my stuff?

Absolutely not. I speak with you about your life priorities, what changes you want to make, and then assist you with actions to move in that direction. Everyone has their own personal timing for when it is time to let go of certain things. I honor your decisions and treat your belongings with respect and care.

Q. How long is an organizing session?

I tailor my sessions to your needs. A general guideline is a minimum of four hours per session, which allows a momentum to build and time to make significant progress.

I schedule up to eight hours with a client per day; and occasionally will work longer days if there is a crucial deadline involved.

Q. How long will it take to de-clutter my home?

It depends on many factors: The size of your home; how cluttered or disorganized it is; and your personality! Some people prefer to move slowly in this process; some prefer to get it done as fast as possible. I work to accommodate your needs.

Q. How long does it take to organize each room?

Generally speaking, it often takes around 8 to 12 hours to completely declutter and organize a moderately cluttered, medium-sized room. But there are a lot of variables (see the previous question & answer). I’ve done lots of small, simple jobs in four hours, sometimes less. I’ve also worked on much larger projects that can take several weeks. I have some clients that are slowly improving their homes with intermittent visits over a longer period of time.

Q. My spouse (roommate, sibling, etc.) is a hoarder. Can you help them?

It depends… are they requesting help? I work with individuals who want to make changes in their lives. I specifically work with the person who owns the belongings. I do not organize another person’s things unless they have given their permission. (I, of course, make exceptions if the person is totally incapacitated or deceased.)

Q. Do you have a big crew that comes in, like in some TV shows?

No. I work individually with each client, or sometimes with two people in the same household. My specialty is to create personal solutions and assist you with the actual work of clearing clutter and organizing. Part of my service is to help you create new habits as you move forward, and to provide compassionate and nonjudgmental emotional support during the process.
